With Holland America's new ship, the Koningsdam, the line is shifting it demographic and psychographic targets to a younger (relatively) and more active market. The Koningsdam is a Pinnacle class ship. This new class of ship, and the first new ship since the launch of the Nieuw Statendam in 2010, adds more modern touches and activities, while preserving the premium level experience its regular customers appreciate. The line has already ordered a sister ship set for delivery in 2018.

These changes are welcome and we believe will appeal to wide market which will enchance the customer experience. Below is a video highlight the Koingsdam.

What makes it different?

1) It features a more modern design inspired by the lines and shapes of musical instruments.

2) Ding and entertainment have been centralized on Decks 2 & 3. Wine Connoisseurs will enjoy watching the art of winemaking at BLEND which is operated in collaboration with Chateau Ste. Michelle.   The Grand Nutch Cafe offers traditional Dutch foodwith European beers. Music Walk delivers three entertainment venues

3) The pool and spa facilities are larger than traditional Holland America ships

4) Like several of its competitors it is adding more dining options.

5) There are more entertainment options like the Lincoln Center State which was created in partnership with the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.  The New World Stage is one of the new concepts features a 270 degree LED projection system. BB King's Music Club remains as a popular venue.

We've been a fan of Holland America for years, but had found it a bit too old-style for our tastes, and its clients average age about 10 years higher than our preference. These changes should appeal to its existing clientele while opening the line to a more diverse market. Bravo Holland America!
